
Jackie Pearson came in last at the 2010 Riverless Festival Fun Run/Walk in Phillipsburg, KS, June 5. But for her, that was great. "A year ago, I could barely walk," she said. Now she's finishing a 2 mile Fun Run/Walk.
The year before she had fallen on her left side onto some concrete, and injured her hip and elbow. This was just the topper for her years of chronic pain and trying to find someone who could help her.
She has had back problems since she was a teen and fibromyalgia symptoms since her 20's. For most of her life she has had headaches and chronic pain. Her doctors "had no idea what was causing the pain" and told her it was "all in your head."
She had gone to chiropractors off and on throughout her life, and in August of 2008 she came to The Phillipsburg Chiropractic Center. She came in with sciatica and fibro pains. She had muscle problems and stress that kept her back from staying in place after Dr. Dustin Cheney would adjust her. But he persisted and eventually her back began to stay and her pain started easing up.
Then she fell and injured her hip. After that she started working with Dr. Susan Buchanan-Cheney, using acupuncture to relieve some of the pain and to work on her fibro pains as well.

Jackie said that for years she had woken up with headaches, fibro pains, arthritis and other chronic ailments. After starting the NRCT it has reduced her pains so she "feels like a different person."

So, when Dr. Kian formed the walking/running fitness club to train for the Riverless Fun Run/Walk, he asked her if she thought she could do it. After giving it some thought, she said yes and started training.The group started out with walking about 3/4 of a mile and gradually increased the distance. When we eventually got to the 2 mile distance, it took Jackie an hour to walk it, but she managed to do the whole distance. She then dropped her time to 55 minutes, and by race day, she completed the 2 mile course in 50.26 minutes. Last place, but she finished it.
Race day was hot and humid, but she kept going with motivation by the group and a determination to not give up.
"I've always put others first," she said. "My husband, son and anyone else who needed something. This was the first time I did something for myself." Just turning 55, Jackie feels she is at a turning point in her life, and is working to lose some weight, get healthier and enjoy life. With her determination and support from her group, everything is looking up from here.
